Chapter Philanthropy and Service

Detroit Metropolitan Local Philanthropy and Service

The Creed of Zeta Tau Alpha asks members to "think in terms of all mankind and our service in the world." In addition to participating in our national philanthropy, each Zeta Tau Alpha collegiate and alumnae chapter participates in local service projects that produce long-lasting benefits.

If you know a worthwhile local organization that we could partner with, please let us know!

HAVEN Shelter for Domestic and Sexual Abuse

For several years, we have supported HAVEN, a shelter for victims of domestic and sexual abuse through donations of emergency and ongoing supplies for shelter guests.

Members are asked to bring items from the list to any meeting or gathering.   To learn more about HAVEN, go to http://www.haven-oakland.org/.   Check the website for the current needs list or for more information on how to donate.

Local Homeless and Winter Warming Center

Many wonderful organizations in the Detroit Metropolitan area work to provide help to those in our community who are in dire need. In the winter months it is particularly difficult so several local churches work to support a warming center providing a warm place to sleep, showers and meals. Detroit Metro has donated meals or supported the shelters through other donations.

Ronald McDonald House- Detroit

Several years ago, a Detroit Metro member and her family suffered an unbearable tragedy when their 3-year-old son became seriously ill with a rare fatal disease. During the time the family spent watching over their sweet boy at Detroit Children’s Hospital, they stayed at the Ronald McDonald House next door. She shared with us that they had need of donations of magazines and books for families to read or children to use for art projects during their long stays.
