Chapter History

Where it all began...

Detroit Metropolitan, “Detroit Metro,” came to life in 1989 when a group of young Beta Phi Chapter alumnae from Michigan State moved back to the area and wanted to stay in touch to keep their Zeta journey going after college had ended.   Before email, websites, social media and the prevalence of mobile phones, the best way to connect was phone calls and “snail mail.” The group met at their childhood homes and first apartments and started inviting local alumnae to come together for social outings, speakers and service projects. These women soon started welcoming alumnae from Gamma Omicron, Alpha Gamma, Zeta Omega, Alpha Theta and other chapters from across the country. The young group petitioned for and received their charter at Zeta Day 1992.
